How To Get Through Seasons of Doubt

I want to talk about going through seasons of doubt because I think especially in this season, where I’m making so many decisions and there are so many big things happening, it’s so easy for me to want to doubt myself and to question absolutely every decision I’m making.

Is it the right one?

Is this where God wants me?

Am I screwing this up?

Are my outcomes not going to be what they’re supposed to be?

Am I not fulfilling my purpose?

There are so many questions and wonders, and it’s been very easy to fall into the trap of believing that things aren’t going to work out or that things may not fall into place. Like am I really going to be able to pay off my student loan debt? Am I really going to be able to get a house? Is my faith even real? Am I marrying the right person?

That’s just honesty. But what I’m realizing is this:

The enemy will do absolutely anything he can to make sure that you are miserable.

And here’s what I had to do to get over it:

I had to call out all those lies.

Every time they came up.

Because choosing faith over fear and faith over doubt is a choice. And that’s as simple as it is. You have to change your mindset. You have to say no to the enemy, and you have to say yes to God.

The enemy does not want you to have a fulfilled life.

But God does.

And I don’t really care what makes sense or doesn’t make sense in life to the world. All I know is that when I put those doubts aside, and I called them out, and I said, “I don’t belong to you. I don’t need to believe the lies that you’re telling me. You are a liar,” there was freedom.

When I let all of those doubts go, and instead, when I just simply chose to believe, when I quit allowing those questions to circulate in my mind, that is when I felt happiness, and that is when I truly was able to love and be at peace.

The same thing happened when I was writing my book. I felt these lies and these doubts circulate in my head and I wondered and doubted all the time.

Is this even going to make an impact?

Am I doing the right thing?

What if this isn’t what I’m supposed to be doing?

Blah. Blah. Blah.

But here’s the thing about purpose - God provides it to us. It’s not something we have to figure out on our own. It’s not based on what we do or don’t do according to the world. It’s focusing on Christ and allowing Him to reveal each step to us.

We put a lot of pressure on ourselves, telling ourselves that faith has to be perfect and spotless. Relationships have to be perfect and spotless.

And that’s just false.

Sometimes you’re going to want to doubt. That’s just the enemy working in your life because he knows that you’re going to do big things.

And it’s okay to confess that.

So what I want to challenge you to do is this:

  1. Call out those lies that the enemy is trying to put in your head to steal you of the joy that God gives you.

  2. Choose freedom. You have the power to choose.

  3. Reflect and have gratitude on the things that are in your life - the good things that you can smile about, that you can thank God for. Start focusing on those things every single day. Reflect on the good that God’s given you. That’s powerful.

Because here’s the thing:

We could live our whole lives with doubt. We could live our whole lives questioning whether or not we’re in the right spot or with the right person, whether there’s something better out there for us, whether our God is real. We could spend our whole lives going back and forth, feeling good and feeling bad…

Or we have the power to choose faith. To choose peace. To choose freedom.

God has given us that power to choose.

What will you decide?
