Healthy Habits That Are Working for Me in 2025

Starting the new year is always an opportunity to reflect and adjust. My prayer for a while has been, “Lord, I pray I am the healthiest I’ve ever been - physically, spiritually, emotionally, and mentally.” Some of the changes that I’ve made have been subtle to achieve this, but they’re already making a big difference. Here’s a peek at what’s working for me so far in 2025.

Yuka App – Scanning Food and Household Products in Our Home

When my husband first came home and told me about the Yuka app, I’ll be honest: I kind of rolled my eyes internally. I thought it was just going to be one more thing to worry about. But I decided to give it a try. And I was shocked by what I found.

The Yuka app lets you scan barcodes on food and household products, giving you a clear rating based on its ingredients. As I scanned through items in our kitchen and bathroom, I couldn’t believe how many unhealthy additives and chemicals I was unknowingly exposing my family to. Some of them were downright dangerous.

Here’s how it works:

  • Find the barcode on any product (food, household items, personal care, etc.)

  • Open the Yuka app and select the “Scan” option

  • Check out the rating: You’ll get an overall score out of 100

  • Dive further into the positives & negatives: See which ingredients are good and which are harmful, learn which additives pose a risk and their severity, and check key health metrics like sodium, fats, sugars, protein, fiber, and more

I’m not sponsored by Yuka, and I’m using the free version, but it’s been a game changer in helping me make more informed decisions about the food and products I bring into our home. The transparency it provides has really opened my eyes to how much I can improve what my family is consuming.

The YouVersion Bible App – The Bible Recap

As a former full-time pastor, I’ve recommended the YouVersion Bible app and the plans within it countless times. But I do think we have to be careful that we don’t become consumed with plans that focus more on devotional thoughts than on diving deep into Scripture. But this year, I found something that has truly enriched my Bible reading: The Bible Recap.

I’ve used Bible Journal Guides in the past (and I sell them here!), and I think that’s so great if you want to read the Bible in a year and need a space to document your notes! But The Bible Recap does an incredible job of breaking down each day’s readings and leading you through a deeper understanding of God’s Word. The best part? It focuses on God—not just our feelings. Each video asks, “What was your God Shot?” and helps you reflect on what you’ve learned about God, rather than just what you’ve learned about yourself.

Here’s how it works:

  • Intro Videos: Start with videos that set you up for your Bible reading

  • Daily Readings: Follow the daily Bible reading plan

  • Recap Videos: After you read, watch a short video that highlights key takeaways and deeper insights

I love that it helps me read through the whole Bible in a year, and it’s a refreshing way to dive deeper into Scripture.

Truly Free Home Products

I’ve also been more mindful about the household products we use, and I’ve found that making simple, non-toxic changes has been a huge blessing for our family. A few months ago, I stumbled upon Truly Free home products, and it’s honestly been a game-changer.

I was skeptical at first—especially since I had to mix the laundry detergent with water myself—but I’ve been amazed at how easy it is to use, and how long it lasts. We’re still using the first order I placed last July, and I haven’t had to buy detergent since.

Here’s why I love Truly Free:

  • Non-toxic & Effective: They’ve created products that actually work—without harsh chemicals

  • Cost-effective: The refillable system saves us money in the long run

  • Eco-friendly: I feel good knowing I’m using products that are safer for my family and the planet

Reading Together Before Bed

Another small but impactful habit we’ve adopted in 2025 is reading together as a couple. Tyler and I have set a goal to read one book a month, and it’s been amazing to bond and grow spiritually through this time. Here are some of the books I personally am diving into:

  • Upon Waking (devotional)

  • God, Sex, & Your Marriage

  • Intentional Parenting

  • Grace-Based Parenting

  • Strengths-Based Marriage

  • No Perfect Parents

  • Drawn Together (couples devotional)

  • Theology of Home II

  • Necessary Endings

  • The God I Never Knew

  • The Blessed Life

We love this time to grow together, learn new things, and support each other in our roles as spouses and parents.

Couples Workout Once a Week

Tyler and I have also committed to working out together once a week. He writes up a plan, and we hold each other accountable. This has been such a great way to support one another and push each other to be healthier and stronger.

As I reflect on these habits, I’m so grateful for the subtle yet powerful changes we’ve made in our home. From being more mindful about the products we use, to diving deeper into the Word, these small adjustments are helping me feel healthier, more spiritually grounded, and more connected with my family - truly the healthiest I’ve ever felt!

If you’re looking for simple ways to start 2025 strong, I’d encourage you to try implementing even one of these habits into your life. Even small steps can make a big difference.
